Nothing is locked
No trial, no feature gate, no seat count, no machine activation, no domain lock. Evaluate with your real data for as long as you like; in the software the only difference is the mark on the PDF, and production use needs a licence.

One line to configure
BROADPAPER_LICENSE=BP1… in a Node environment, or one configure() call at startup, which is how a browser does it. The mark
disappears, and nothing else in the software changes.

It never calls us
The licence is verified against a public key compiled into the package. BroadPaper makes no network request of its own — not to render, not to validate — so it works in an air-gapped build and we never see your templates, your data or your documents.

A late renewal is not an outage
A licence keeps working for 30 days past its expiry, with a warning in your logs. Nothing breaks the moment a card is declined.

§ 03Questions people ask
- Do we need a licence to try it?
- No. `npm install` and everything works — every block, both PDF backends, the designer, your real data. In the software, the only difference is that PDFs carry a BroadPaper evaluation mark. There is no trial clock and nothing expires; production use needs a licence.
- What exactly does the licence change?
- Technically, a licence removes the evaluation mark and changes nothing else in the software — no feature, block or backend is gated behind either tier. Contractually, it is what permits production use.
- Which licence do we need?
- Internal, if the software you are building is for your own people. SaaS / OEM, if anyone outside your organisation will use it — your customers, their staff, the public. If in doubt, it is the second one.
- Is the licence a secret?
- No. It is a signed certificate, not an API key, so it is safe in a browser bundle, a container image or a repository: it says what you bought, and editing it invalidates the signature. Like any offline licence it is a record of what you are entitled to rather than a lock — the licence agreement is what governs use.
- Does the SDK phone home?
- Never. Licences are verified locally against a public key compiled into the package, so BroadPaper works in an air-gapped build and we never see your templates, your data or your documents.
- What happens if a renewal is late?
- A licence keeps working for 30 days after it expires, with a warning in your logs. Nothing breaks the moment a card is declined.
- Is it per developer?
- No. Seat counting is exactly the kind of licensing developers work around, and it would need activation servers we are not going to build.
- What happens when the licence year ends?
- Renew, and you get the next year's updates, support and a fresh licence. Do not, and continued production use needs a renewal: PDFs go back to carrying the evaluation mark 30 days later. The software is not switched off, and your templates and every document you have already produced are yours regardless.
- Can we move from Internal to SaaS / OEM?
- Yes, at any time, from your account page, for the difference in price pro-rated to the end of your licence year. A new licence appears there straight away; nothing in your code or templates changes. It does not work in the other direction — your licence runs to the date you paid for, so if you need the narrower one, let this year finish and buy it then.
- Do you offer refunds?
- Within fourteen days of a first purchase, for any reason. The details are in the refund policy.
